The Institution of Surveyors of Uganda (ISU) is a professional body that brings together all Quantity Surveyors, Land Surveyors, Valuation Surveyors, and Mining and Hydrological Surveyors in Uganda to advance professional knowledge and promote the professional interests of all Surveyors to the benefit of the public. The ISU draws its mandate from the Surveyors’ Registration Act, which established the Surveyors’ Registration Board (SRB)
Position Purpose: To supply administrative support to the part-time accountant by performing clerical tasks such as filing, handling mail, making phone calls, replying to emails and basic bookkeeping — ensuring a robust policy framework, accurate and timely reporting, statutory compliance, sound budgeting, audit preparedness, effective asset management and sustainable revenue recovery to support the Secretariat’s objectives.
Key Responsibilities:
Financial Reporting & Compliance: Prepare and present monthly financial reports/statements, statutory filings (NSSF, PAYE, VAT, LST) and risk-register updates as per the institution’s Financial Management and Procurement Policies
Budgeting & Cash Management: Support in the preparation of the institutional and program-specific budget estimates; manage ad-hoc cash requisitions and monitor budget variances monthly.
Audit Coordination & Controls:
Coordinate annual audit exercises—compile documentation and liaise with auditors
Implement member-payment initiatives to boost dues collection.
Asset Management: Maintain a comprehensive asset register with monthly depreciation entries.
Revenue Generation & Arrears Recovery:
a) Draft funding proposals b) Issue sponsor reminder notices. c) Implement member arrears-recovery plans
Technical Support & Ad-hoc Duties:
a) Act as ISU’s bank agent. b) Perform any other duties as assigned by the Governing Council.
Candidate Profile
Education & Professional Qualifications
Diploma or Bachelor’s in Accounting, Finance or related field.
Membership in a recognised professional body (e.g., ICPAU) is advantageous.
Experience & Skills
2 + years in accounting or financial management roles, ideally within professional associations or NGOs.
Strong grasp of Ugandan statutory requirements (NSSF, PAYE, VAT, LST).
Proficiency with accounting software (QuickBooks, Sage) and advanced Excel skills.
Core Competencies
Excellent analytical, communication and stakeholder management skills.
High integrity and discretion in handling confidential financial data.
Ability to work independently in a predominantly remote environment.
Reporting:
The Accounts Assistant shall report to the Honorary Treasurer through the Finance & Accounts Consultant.
